The Sustainable Mountain Agriculture has constructed two WoodMizer®
designed solar kilns to dry the wood we have cut with the WoodMizer®
saw mill.
View from inside the drying chamber.
Before plastic roof is installed.
Double layer of plastic provides a "greenhouse"
effect with an insulating area of air.
On top of the drying chamber. Two circulating
fans keep warm, drying air flowing throughout the wood.
You are in the drying chamber.
The heating chamber faces the winter sun.
A small door provides access to the drying chamber.
Smaller pieces can be hand loaded into this drying chamber.
Large loads are placed in the main drying chamber
with a tractor or fork truck.
You see a small load of white oak here. The interior
walls are painted black for heat absorption.
