Once a log has four sawn surfaces it is called a "cant". At this point a log can easily be turned into stakes, planks that require very little finish work, posts, lap siding, shingles or raw materiel for furniture and crafts.

Tomato stakes.

Lap siding is being cut here. There is an optional attachment under the cant that gives the taper necessary for lap siding to fit properly.

The Wood-Mizer can be purchased with a trailer option that allows for easy transport to farms for custom sawing or can be taken "to the tree" on your farm. It comes with a very easy leveling system that allows for cutting on uneven terrain.

The Sustainable Mountain Agriculture Center will travel to your community for workshops and demonstrations (southern Appalachia region only). Click here for details.
