Basin Mountain is a mutant bean from the Non-Tough Half Runner (NTHR) , which was a mutant originally.  The original bean was given to Bill Best by James Goode in the 1990s.  James had received it from his father-in-law who was a minister. His father-in-law had gotten it from a sawmill operator in Breathitt County. He told Bill he had stopped growing it because his children had said he should go with the flow and grow Blue Lakes instead.. We love the stories that the beans bring with them.  Bill is excited that the Basin Mountain Bean (named from the mountain overlooking where the mutation took place)is being added our collection.  The Basin Mountain bean is about an inch longer than the NTHR and has an excellent flavor.
