Bill received the Walker Sisters bean seeds from Fred Sauceman at East Tennessee State University. Fred had gotten them from one of his students and had grown them, liked them and wanted to share them! We are excited to add them to our collection in 2024. The Walker sisters were from a family of eleven siblings who grew up where the Great Smoky Mountains Park ultimately was located. The Walkers did not want to lose their land to the park, but the government ultimately bought their land but granted the family a lifetime lease. Prior to the park's creation, the hardworking and resilient sisters made their livelihood off of the land. We are fortunate to have their green beans as a testimony to their years of self-sufficient living. To read more about their remarkable story, head here: https://www.smliv.com/food/immortality-in-green-beans/ There are approximately 75 seeds in each pack.
