Given to us in 2024 by David Sheley of Stuart, Virginia. Mr. Sheley purchased a start of these in 1987 at the Fair in New Boston (near Springfield, Ohio) from a seedman, Mr. Hartman. According to the story, these beans were raised by a Pennsylvania Dutch family for 50 years and brought with them when they moved to Indiana in 1830, the family as raised them since 1780. We appreciate Mr. Sheley paying his promise forward to Mr. Hartman and sharing these beautiful beans with us! A recent note from David Sheley (who is 82) said that it is an honor and privilege to be able to eat heirloom vegetables and get to taste foods that our ancestors raised and ate. We couldn't agree more! 75 seeds.
